Querozito DeSouza’s recent works continue to be an effortless coalescence of the mythical and the real. By every standard he now has a uniquely definable style; a style that he has now perfected. Poignant with layers of suggestion and meaning, this body of work defines a new energetic reality and unique to this new energetic reality is a sense of weightlessness.
The icons and images that DeSouza uses are all part of a subconscious. The unconscious is a store house of immense knowledge and impressions. Absorbing these and retaining their very essence he builds up this newer and vigorous reality, that is actually astutely concealed beneath an air that is lackadaisical and mollifying. He uses his rare intuitive and armed with the wealth of his inner knowledge sheets over the meaning of his subjects that inhabit his imagination. Through muscular and toned, or emaciated and cadaverous bodies kneaded together into a pulsating or vibrating whole he chooses to either reveal or recreate the immediate reality. In doing so he also succeeds to render a sense of absurdity that in turn highlights the mythical and real combine.
What is easily discernible through his very stylized manner of rendering is the skill at building up or layering the torsos that inhabit his works. Though the earlier brief sharp strokes now merge with the eloquent base he consciously seems to build up an atmosphere of brooding. An articulate brooding that is unquestionably poetic and lyrical. He keeps the eye captivated, the impact of what is presented permeating our own thoughts and into our imaginations.
